The Pathways Instruction and Reflection Tools (PIRT) are a collection of instructional reflection resources and coaching structures designed to help faculty better enact the following three foundational elements of the Pathways instructional System:
- The 3 Learning Opportunities: Productive Struggle, Deliberate Practice, and Explicit Connections
- Productive Persistence: promoting students’ tenacity and use of good strategies
- Promoting equitable teaching so that all students can succeed
The PIRT materials were rigorously tested by a group of eight Pathways faculty (including recent NIC Spotlight, Leslie Buck) in a study in the fall of 2017. We just finished revamping the PIRT materials based on data and participant feedback collected during the study. The new and improved, field-tested materials are available here.
Notably, the title and scope of these resources has evolved from a single PIRT worksheet into a comprehensive Improving Your Practice Toolkit, featuring new wraparound supports and refinements. If you are interested in being paired with a coach to use the Toolkit, or simply want to learn more, please email us AQT@carnegiemathpathways.org.
